ALADDIN 3477 Fall Update!

As production continues on Aladdin 3477, Director Matt Busch couldn’t be more excited. With his 42nd birthday happening this week, it was exactly 2 years ago that Busch announced his grand alma mater project on YouTube: a live-action science fiction feature film based on the classic Arabian Nights adventure.

Truth be told, the actual production of Aladdin 3477 has been on a brief hiatus since August, and filming won’t resume until midway through October. Busch clarifies, “We’re taking off nearly two months of actual filming, but believe me, during this time the wheels are still turning. Construction on sets still happens three days a week, as does the fabrication of new costumes and armor. We also have a team of martial arts professionals choreographing an amazing fight scene, and we have new robots and vehicles that are being built as well.”

Why the hold up with actual shooting? Busch answers, “We kind of completed the first leg of the shoot. So on one hand, we need to regroup and rebuild for a whole new section of the movie. One the other hand, I’ve been pummeled with my Star Wars illustration work. I have well over 50 illustrations on my desk I’m doing for a few yet-to-be-announced projects. It’s fun because I’m such a fan of the ‘Galaxy Far, Far Away….’ but it’s also daunting because right now all I want to do is work on Aladdin. You know you’re spoiled when you get to draw Star Wars for a living and you’d rather be doing something else. It happens to be my 20th Anniversary of working on official Star Wars material, so taking some time off to really enjoy that excitement has been a fun change of pace.”

It’ll be a few more weeks until Aladdin 3477 resumes shooting. Already Busch and the crew are ready to film some epic new scenes, including some exotic temple and underground cave scenes. So why not shoot now? “Honestly, I need the money to continue.” explains Busch, “These Star Wars gigs couldn’t have dropped in my lap at a better time. I started the production with a big chunk of money I had saved over the years from George Lucas purchasing a lot of my original art. That money disappeared quick and now the credit cards are maxxed out, so these new funds will help with that debt, as well as pay the rent for the soundstage into 2015.”

With the film being such a huge financial undertaking, is Busch worried about how successful Aladdin 3477 will be? “Not at all.” Busch answers without hesitation, “The movie is already a success in my book. I’m making my dream project come true, and it’s coming out better than I could have ever hoped for. The entire cast and crew is really pushing to make this cutting edge and like nothing you’ve experienced before. Even if the movie didn’t make a dime, we would have this incredible film that we are all so proud of and had so much fun working on. That said, I expect that passion will shine through and whatever course the movie finds, others will consider it a success by their definitions as well.”

While Busch has released a plethora of fun behind-the-scenes images on his Instagram and the Aladdin 3477 Facebook Page, he has yet to release any actual screenshots. “All in good time.” he says. However, a public audience could be getting their first glimpse of actual footage as early as October.

Busch and his wife (Aladdin 3477 Producer and Actress Lin Zy) are special guests at Jedi-Con, an official Star Wars show in Düsseldorf, Germany October 3-5. While the world is months away from any kind of official trailer, Busch teases that there will be an opportunity for attendees to see the first public glimpse of the epic movie. As to what exactly they’ll see and how, Busch is tight lipped, but social media may be sharing the sneak peek soon.

Stay tuned!
